🎯 Sport Shooting

This free worksheet helps you record, compare, and adjust all your rifle settings. Perfect for athletes, coaches, and clubs.

Photo of the worksheet

The new season is just around the corner and that makes it the perfect time to take a closer look at your rifle.

Over the past few years, I’ve noticed how often we think we know our settings by heart until something changes, we travel, or suddenly nothing feels quite like it used to.

I still remember when I joined the Austrian Shooting Federation’s talent group at 15. Our coach back then, Lisa Pickl (then Hänsch), once gave us the task to write down all our rifle settings.
And I remember feeling completely lost: what exactly are you supposed to write down?

That’s exactly why this worksheet was born: so no one has to start with a blank page again, but instead has a clear structure and knows where to begin.

Why you should document your setup

An air rifle offers countless adjustment options, so many that it’s nearly impossible to keep them all in your head.
Writing them down helps you:

  • rebuild your rifle quickly after travel or disassembly
  • recognize and understand small changes more precisely
  • work more systematically with your coach

About the worksheet

The worksheet covers all major parts of your rifle from buttplate and cheekpiece to grip, fore-end, and sights.
You can record measurements, model details, and notes, and mark what you’ve already documented using these icons:

  • ✏️ = marked directly on the rifle
  • 📷 = photo taken
  • ↔️ = setting changed and recorded on the “Changes” sheet

If you make adjustments during the season, just mark them and record the details on the “Changes” page.
At the start of the next season, grab a fresh sheet and you’ll have a clean, updated baseline again.

How to use it

Whether you print it out or fill it in digitally is up to you.
Take the time you need, go through all your settings carefully, and write them down.

If you’re unsure about how to measure something, make sure to note your reference points, for example:

  • are you measuring the fore-end height from the rail or from the stock?
  • for the sights, are you taking the value from the front edge or the rear edge of the diopter?

The more precisely you record your measurements, the easier it will be to rebuild your rifle later.

Final thoughts

Every season is a small new beginning.
If you take the time to document your setup now, you’ll save yourself a lot of small uncertainties later and be able to focus fully on what really matters during training and competition.

Thanks to Theresa and my coaches Christian and Achim for their feedback. ☺️
